Hi my name is Kyle and I'm an addict. I've struggled with addiction for about six years now. I went through inpatient treatment a few years ago but I don't think I have been serious about my recovery until now. I still struggle with my addiction but not as much as in the past. I have wanted to be clean for a long time now and I just haven't seemed to figure it out. The one thing I am missing in my program is a support system. The only people who know I still struggle with addiction are my friends who are users and my girlfriend who doesn't use but also doesn't fully understand addiction. She is a great help though. I'm here to hopefully reach out to those who can understand what I am going through and help me correct my mistakes.anyways i'm excited to get to know the great people on this site and I'm thankful there is an option like this.

Welcome Kyle. Addiction is difficult to understand for an addict, trying to get an "Earthling" to identify is difficult. It has been my experience that they think you should just 'stop' not realizing the powerlessness we have over our disease and by ourselves we can not do it.
My sister always said, "You were never known for your will power." I said, "That wasn't my problem. What I don't have is won't power. I also had a willfullness that said, "Don't tell me, watch me."
By posting here, you have started the process of Step One. You got honest with yourself, you surrendered and asked for help and you seem to have an acceptance of the fact that your are an addict. That is a good beginning.
There are some good posts on the site. Remember you didn't get addicted in one day and that recovery is a process and there is no quick fix. We do this one day at a time. Just for today, I choose not to use. For this 24 hours, I will ask for help in the morning, go through my day and not pick up no matter what and give thanks at night. Face to face meetings helped me. It is difficult going to that first one, but after that it does get better. It is suggested 90 meetings in 90 days, look around and see who is walking their talk and has what you want, and ask them to be your sponsor. If they are too busy or already have too many sponsors, then look around, you will connect with the right person. If you are lucky to have more than one meeting in your area, check them out and see where you feel the most comfortable and join. We can do what I can't do alone. There are people there that want recovery, there are those who are ordered to be there, and there are those who just want to clean up so they can use some more.
The people vary but the program is the same, the 12 Steps and Traditions, the literature and the slogans all help to stay focused, heal, and make changes in our life.
Keep coming so you don't have to come back. You don't have to be clean to go to your first meeting but it helps. After that, we don't quit forever, or a month or a week. We do it just for today.

Good Morning Kyle...
Welcome to EOR and God Bless you on this journey to recovery... Don't look to far down the road, keep your focus on today! It is so important to have that support system... Are you attending AA/NA meetings?
Oooops, I forgot to introduce myself, my name is Cherie and I am a grateful member of Alanon/Naranon. My beloved qualifiers are my sister, one son and one daughter. I have grown in my recovery thanks to these programs and I am always ready to reach out to those that still suffer.
It's our privilege to have you on this site and I hope you will keep coming back.....
Peace on the journey, SunnyGirl
