Simon in New Jersey. S/D 8-28-95
I found this place doing a search for recovery message boards and so far I like what I see.
Alcohol and heroin used to be my two favorite things in the world until the poop hit the fan and I was pulled out of that world we know all too well by ALGAIUH.
I'm married 3 years (yesterday was our anniversary) to an awesome wife who is also in recovery 13+ We met at a meeting almost 14 years ago, started dating around September of 1999 shortly after a sponsor of mine passed away and we've been together ever since. She is my love and also my bull$hit filter.
As far as other message boards go, I hang at a place for NY Mets fans most of the time.
I'm generally not a person who posts much so I like to make them count when I do. I generally read before I post.
Just to give you an idea about me: Favorite movie: Blazing Saddles- best movie EVER Sports teams: NY Mets and Green Bay Packers TV shows: Rescue Me, Burn Notice, and In Plain Sight

Welcome to EOR Simon.... A big congrats on your sobriety date, that's a few 24's.. and congrats once again on your 3rd wedding anniversary. "Honey" and I just celebrated or 35th anniversary last week. I am a grateful member of Alanon/Naranon and have been hanging around here on the message boards for about 8 years or so. You summed it up nicely in your bio, sounds like you will be a wonderful addition to our recovery family. I am truly looking forward to your posting and sharing your ESH... A Met's fan..... I'm in the middle of the desert (Las Vegas) and I have no sports teams. Used to root for my boys little league teams, but thats been several years ago! Glad you found us Simon, we were waiting for you to get here..... Peace on the journey, Cherie

Welcome to the group. I got sober in August too, 8-21-1991 one day at a time. Glad you made the decision to join us. Congratulations on your anniversary. I have met a few AA members here in Canada who met in recovery and developed wonderful relationship. Mind you, I have a friend who says he will never date a girl in recovery because he prefers to be the sick on in the relationship.
My son is a Green Bay Packer fan. Mine teams are the Hamilton Ti-Cats and the Toronto Blue Jays. Not a lot to cheer from either team recently. I am more of a tennis, curling and golf type person.
My favorite movie was Willow. I don't recognize the TV shows don't know if they are shown on Canadian TV. I don't watch much of it, I am a reality show buff and love Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, and American Idol along with the Canadian versions.
My passion is bridge. I do Community Service Work in the local jail for Al-Anon and at an Internet Cafe. I am a recovering addict who drug of choice was alcohol and prescription drugs (dried up alcool). That was when I wasn't using relationships, food, work and my computer. Thanks to this program, my life is in balance and it isn't all or nothing at all any more.
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing.

ALGAIUH. [/img] Love it! When I saw it my thought was "Mixed feelings and it covers all things!) Trip sounds nice, the only places I visited was Orlando and Daytona Beach about 46 years ago. I was there before Disney World.

The avatar itself was a morph of Fezzy's face with Andre the Giant made by a listener of the show. If you're A.D.D. like me it's a great show because they switch topics quite often so it's easy for me to follow.

Saw Andre the Giant wrestle many years ago. Are you a fan? I also saw Jake the Snake Roberts and Rickey the Dragon Steamboat. They were my favorite. Wrestling has changed so much I don't watch it any more. When I saw them wrestle, it was my son's birthday present to me!

If you ever hear my story, I worked as a toll collector for the Jersey Turnpike for 17 years. It was there I learned that you can cash your paycheck at the bar and get money to drink. I didn't go to a bank for years. Anyway. All those guys you mentioned came through the toll booths quite often. Ivan Putski, Roddy Piper, Greg Valentine, Don Morocco, Hulk Hogan, Sgt. Slaughter. The list goes on.
I started watching when I was like 8 and got hooked. Of course my wife thinks it's dumb amd misogonistic and blah blah. I was at Madison Square Garden when Hogan won the title for the first time against The Iron Sheik. He drove through my booth at 16W with Fred Blassie in the car.
Lots of fond memories. Tonight's ending of RAW was one of the fakest i've ever seen. The chair with Shane's leg. Then the stairs. You gotta give those guys credit for their acting skills. ;D

Also like Rowdy Roddy Piper and Randy Savage, I hear second hand these days when my son visits to watch it on my TV. I generally go into my room and read.
There is certainly more violence and more sham, everyone talks a good story and as you say, good actors. Some of them are getting up in age and still going strong which surprises me because there is so much wear and tear on their bodies.
I lived the abuse and don't like to watch it in today. My husband put me through a wall once and left the imprint of my body in the plaster. Not my idea of fun. The same goes for watching TV shoes about domestic violence. Been there, done it, wore the T-shirt, don't find it entertaining in sobriety. I did a work placement with the Government in the Mother's Allowance section. The worker says you have a real affinity for this type of work and are good with the people. In this last case, what would you suggest to her. I said, "I'd tell her to go get herself the biggest cast iron frying pan and hit the ba*tard over the head as hard as she could when he was passed out. She said, "Maybe your not ready for this type of work after all."
