Anger

When I first heard about the car "accident" that took the
life of my brother-in-law and could have killed my sister
as well, I was so very angry at the two of them. They had
been involved in 4 other "accidents" in the year they lived
back there and each time I thought to myself, "it's a miracle
they didn't kill themselves or someone else". I was angry
because they continued to get high on prescription drugs
and put themselves at risk. In none of the accidents were
they cited for DWI, but the emergency room nurse said it
was clearly obvious they were impaired by drugs.

I think I am finished with the anger, it's really not productive
for me to hang onto it. I know they are doing what addicts
do, but driving while impaired is insanity. I just keep thinking
there must be some way to keep people like them off the roads.....

My Sister is 57 her husband 60, one would think that by this
time they would have learned the lesson..... When my daughter
was using meth I kept thinking that surely by the time she hit
40 she would wake up. By the grace of God, she did clean
up her act! I guess as long as there is life, there is hope!

Sis is still in the hospital, she is being given a large amount
of pain meds in order to cope with the pain. Her body has
so many broken bones, she's gone through one surgery
and we have no idea how many more to come. I just hope
she can feel all our prayers..... I hope this tragedy will
at some point have a positive impact on her life as she has
a 1yr. old Grandson and allot of family that loves and cares
about her.

There needs to be some type of reform, to keep people
from legally accessing precription drugs in massive quantitites.
I know they can be bought illegally, but making it more difficult
for them to legally obtain multiple prescriptions needs to be
fixed now!

For many years, I internalized my anger or projected it onto someone else. I didn't know how to express it. I didn't know it was okay to be angry. The danger for me was not in expressing it. The solution was learning how to express it in a healthy way.

A lot of the issues that I was angry about I had to learn to not take them personally, and not take ownship of what wasn't mine. So much of my anger came from false pride, false sense of responsibility, self-pity, and a whole lot of things caused by tunnel vision, denial, and self-righteousness. i.e. I may drink but I don't act like he does. Why doesn't he give me the money to fix he car, buy food, etc.

Anger is really dangerous to my recovery. I didn't truly feel it (deep inside of me) until I was 7 years sober and quit smoking. Cigarettes were a great stuffer, especially were anger and resentments came in. Whenever I didn't want to feel, all I had to do was pick up a cigarette or food not realizing that I was substituting them for alcohol and pills.

Justifiable anger is just as unhealthy for me as resentments and when I let that anger get to an all out rage, I leave myself vulnerable and open to picking up and using again.

IMHO....

Righteous anger has a God-given and positive role
and can motivate us to action in order to overcome
the evil or injustice around us.

Righteous anger can change laws and make many
reforms to society. Anger that causes us to commit
violence and angry words is in no way righteous....
Anger that turns into rage could or would be a
stumbling block to recovery.

My anger is toward doctors that pass out prescriptions
like candy is warranted and I believe it to be righteous
anger. I'd like to see people rise up and force them to
keep an eye on pharmacies and unscrupulous doctors.

Wasn't saying it wasn't justified. I had the same anger, my doctor was my supplier for years. I was turned down for treatment because he told Relapse Prevention that I didn't need help and that I needed the medication he prescribed for me.

I was quoting from the Big Book. Anger of any form isn't good for us, especially an alcoholic. Many times I drank or used to someone else's health with detriment to my own. Don''t tell me watch me. Don't tell me what to do. I'll do what I want to. I'll think this way and you can't tell me different.

I agree with you about keeping a watchful eye on the doctors, their prescription pads and the pharmacies. There is so much forgery of prescriptions, it is unbelievable. My ex did it and was arrested twice for it. He forged them in my name and that of the kids. Can you imagine he never got jail time for it? and we wonder where the justice is and why insurance rates are sky high?
