Received a request for prayer from a friend in Texas. I sent it to my e-mail friends and thought I had posted it here. This woman found out just before Christmas that her oldest daughter at cancer in her uterous and she was 4 month pregnant and her youngest daughter has cancer in her thyroid.
The following is an update from her to my friend on her daughter's condition.
Please include her in your prayers.
Good morning to all of you and thank you so much for your prayers for my girls. Cristy has finished her second week of chemo and radiation. She is very tired and weak, constant nausea, but so far no actual vomiting. Her attitude is so positive and David is such a huge help, although he is very tired also trying to keep up with precious Ryan. We are trying to make sure someone is always with her, at least not by herself anymore that an hour or 2. The doctor hopes the baby will stay in place until the treatments are finished at which time he'll do a hysterectomy and "d and c". If she does miscarry before treatments are finished, then she has to get to the hospital as soon as possible due to the blood loss that will take place. I am very impressed with the communication between her 3 doctors and the urgency they have placed on her situation, as well as their compassion and understanding at the emotional aspect regarding the precious little baby. My Mother said this little baby had a purpose before it ever had a chance to be born, if not for the baby, the tumor would not have been found so early. This baby truly is our little angel! They have also found another spot near the original tumor. The doctor has mentioned doing surgery to remove this area now so the treatment will also cover that, she goes Monday and the Dr. will talk to her and David. During all of this turmoil I somehow got my thoughts turned around and I emailed everyone that it was ovarian cancer-it is actually cervical cancer. Cristy had to correct me, to which I stupidly replied "are you sure?" Things have been crazy and my thoughts have been a little messed up. Melissa will call her Dr. next week and make her appt. for February for her follow up scan to check if there has been any change with the lump on her neck. She too, is very positive. Again, thank you for all your thoughts and prayers and I'll keep everyone updated. Happy New Year. Love Sherry

I just got this from my dear friend Sherry. Her daughter Cristy is the one with uterine cancer. Cristy sent this out to her family and friends. I am sharing it with you with permission and because I know you care and have been praying for Cristy. Keep the prayers going out.... ______________________________________________________ Cristy sent this out last week to her co-workers, I asked her if it was OK for me to forward to all I have emailed and she agreed that it would be good for everyone to hear from her how she is doing. Love to you all and thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Sherry
Good Morning! I hope everyone is doing well this week. I thought I would take a few minutes and send an update, I know people have been asking, sorry that it has taken so long to get this to you. This week is my third week of treatment, so far everything is going well. Chemo is a little rough, but not as bad as I think it probably could be. Nausea, hot and cold flashes and fatigue seem to be the biggest side effects, along with numbness, some hair loss and tingling. I receive chemo every Monday. I get radiation everyday which is quick and painless, although the side effects should be starting soon from that. It defiantly wipes me out everyday, but again I cant complain too much, there are people that I see on a daily basis that have it so much worse than I do. My oncologist found another spot close to the original tumor, he did a biopsy on it and it came back positive for cancer. They have adjusted my radiation treatments to ensure this spot is also being treated. At the end of January I will have another scan to find out if the tumor has gotten any smaller and at that point they will make a decision regarding surgery and additional treatment. If all goes well, the tumor will be smaller and I can have surgery. The week before I started treatment, I had a sonogram done and the fluid levels were dangerously low and the heartbeat had started to slow, the placenta and tumor are sharing the same blood vessel and the tumor was winning. I was unable to have surgery at that point due to the severe bleeding that would take place, it would have been too risking. I was told at that point that the baby would not survive, due to the fluid levels and the tumor. Emotionally, myself and my family are doing okay, the emotions vary day to day. What they say is true, it's one day at a time and everyone is doing their very best to be positive. I have been blessed with an awesome family and friends who have been so helpful and attentive. It helps as the walls begin to close in when you are confined to four walls 90% of the time. My two year old is defiantly not cutting me any slack, he is still as busy as ever, which is nice and gives me a sense of normalcy everyday when he gets home from daycare. I try to save my energy to enjoy some time with him in the evenings. I appreciate everyone's thoughts, prayers and kind words. I will do my best to keep everyone updated. Thank you so much, Cristy

Sorry I didn't get this posted earlier. Latest update from my friend.
Here is the newest update on my friend's two daughters. They have all been through so much. Sometimes it is very challenging to accept that things happen for a reason and it's in God's plan. I can only imagine how difficult this is for all of them. Please continue to pray for them. Thanks, and God bless you.
Hello everyone-I'm sorry I haven't sent an update before now, but this week has been very full. Cristy was to have her last chemo and radiation treatments the first of this week, but sadly went into labor Monday. The baby came Monday night and she just got to come home tonight. She has an infection that can't be taken care of by oral antibiotics, so they kept her in the hospital an extra day to insert a PICC line in order for her to have IV antibiotics at home for the next 2 weeks. No further treatments for the next 3-4 weeks, the doctor will see how she recovers and then make a decision where to go from there. It is certain she'll have to have more radiation, this time it will be done internally. She is very tired and very weak, but is trying to stay strong. The baby was a little boy and his name is Reid Bryant Martinez. He truly is our little angel. We will honor him with a memorial service Monday (Feb.1st) at 10:00 AM at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller. I'll include the address and phone number for those wishing to attend or send flowers. Cristy and David want everyone to know how much they appreciate the thoughts and prayers that have come their way. They have been through so much, more than anyone should have to, but for those of us with children we know that our kids should not have to suffer like this. With God's help they will make it through this and be stronger because of it. Melissa was suppose to go to her doctor this past Tuesday, but they called and said they were over booked and moved her appointment to Monday afternoon. She has had recent blood work done and also a recent scan which the doctor will discuss with us on Monday. Hopefully he can tell us more than "let's wait and watch it." I know sometimes that is all a doctor can say, but it sure makes it hard to wait. She too is very positive and a strong person. I have very strong and determined children, I am so very proud of them. Thank you again for all the thoughts and prayers. As we all know, you can never have enough. Love Sherry Lucas Funeral Home 137 East Hill St. Keller, TX 76248

From my wonderful friend whose daughter has advanced cancer. Please add Cristy to your prayer list along with her Mom and other family members.
Hello everyone-
Sorry its been awhile since an update, but not a lot of good news to share. First let me say I am so sorry I haven't cashed any of the donations checks yet, I promise to do so this week. We thank all of you for your blessings, whether it be in donations, prayers, call, texts, or your thought being with us.
Cristy and David had to cancel their trip (provided by a special couple they know) due to Cristy being in the hospital last weekend which is when they were suppose to leave. She has a partial bowel obstruction. The trip we had arranged for her and David to Cancun also had to be cancelled due to the Dr. not wanting her to be out of the country and the fact she has suffered this decline so rapidly. Between not being able to eat solid foods, nausea and vomiting, and the stomach and back pain, it has not been a good week at all except for the fact a bone scan was done Friday which came back clear. We are so thankful for that. Not sure if she will have to have surgery for the obstruction, if she does it will knock her out of the clinical trail in Houston (we found out last week the trail has been closed for side effect updates for an unknown amount of time.) Her Dr. has told us that he has nothing else to offer. She started a different pain medication today which has not stopped the pain, but eased it to the point she can get some sleep. This week should give us some answers as to what direction to go from here. For now the Disney World trip is on hold. I have found some beach houses for Cristy to choose from, we are just waiting for her to feel good enough to go-hopefully in the next 3-4 weeks.
Melissa followed up, also on Friday, with her Dr. She will be start treatments mid October )she has to be off her thyroid medicine for a certain period of time). The treatments will limit her contact with other people and her pets for a few days. She will feel very weak, have some nausea and vomiting, and loss of hair. She'll have at least 2 treatments, hopefully that will take care of it all. This is nothing compared to her sister, but non the less, very hard for her, especially seeing what her sister is going through. Again thank you all and I will send another update as needed. Love Sherry

Latest update. Good timing, makes my problems seem small.
I just got this. Most of you know what has been going on with my longtime and dear friend Sherry. Both daughters have cancer. Cristy had the most vicious form and you will read the outcome from Sherry. Please put the entire family in your prayers.
Carey
Sorry to be so long in sending out update. Days have been very full and very emotional. I know Cristy has sent out an email, but for those of you that didn't receive it I wanted to let you know things have not gone as we had wished. Cristy was put on hospice about a week ago. She is now in Odyssey's in patient unit (the company I work for). They have for the most part gotten her pain, nausea, and vomiting under control. Melissa and I are with her the majority of the time with David spending as much time as he can given he is trying to work and also keep some normalcy for Ryan (bathtime, dinner, bedtime etc) in check.
She know's everyone's prayers are with her and she sends everyone her love. She stays very tired and we limit her activities so she has the energy for time with David and Ryan.
As always please continue to keep her, David, and little Ryan in your prayers. Love to all Sherry

Received the following message from my friend in Texas: I had lunch today at the office of a doctor friend. Dr. Adams has been my hospice medical director twice. Great guy, terrific oncologist. Anyway, while there, a "rep" from some cancer related company was giving out flyers for a web site related to breast cancer. I thought I would share it with my friends. Before I went to lunch, I visited with my dear friend Sherry and her daughters. One of the daughters, Cristy, is in a hospice house. Sherry has been with her for three weeks...rarely leaving her side. When she does have to go home for a few things, her other daughter is there to stay with Cristy. God Bless all of them. This morning, my dear friend Sherry bid her precious daughter Cristy farewell. Cristy is now with God. As many of you know, Cristy was battling cancer. The battle is over, but Cristy won because she is now with God. You will be missed on this earth Cristy, but you will never be forgotten.
