I have noticed at the top of the main page of the message baords, when I log in, there are always links to ads and they include cities near where I live. Since the ads mention Louisville, Owensboro, Hartford, Henderson, etc....towns within 2 hours of my home, it makes me think EOR has some sort fo tracking thing to know where you live when you log on. Can things liek this bring viruses to your computer?
One that concers me...there was an ad for whiter teeth. it said Hartford mother...etc. I clicked on it last week and read the article. It said Amy was a teacher from Beaver Dam...which is 2 miles from Hardford. The ad said the link woudl expire the 16th...yesterday. I did not click further to buy the product. Todayit had the teeth whitening ad and the same pictures but it said teacher from Owensboro. The other ad has a picture and keeps changing cities.
I see this as some kind of deception. What do you think?

I think it is just 'advertising' Lin. Perhaps the company is in your area or has several offices. The powers of the Internet lets them change things with a click of the finger. I never click on ANY advertisments on ANY website. Even if you don't get a virus, you leave cookies and a trail for hackers to find you. That is why it is important for me to delete cookies and temporary files on my computer regularly by going to Tools, Internet Options, and delete them and my History.

That's what I thought. The "tracking cookies" KNOW where I live and put ads with towns near me. That concerns me. It doubly concerns me they can put the same ad , picture, name and jsut change the cities. They probably have the same ads for YOU and for others but change the city. Isn't that fraud or at the least DECEIT???

Isn't that what advertising is about? Paint a picture just for you and make you think that they are talking just to you. As they say, "It is all in the game." I choose not to 'buy' into it.

What do you think? LIN Mornin Lin.... I am just guessing, but would think Max puts these ads there to make money to pay for the expenses here at EOR. My ad is directed to me here in Vegas... they are able to personalize it, based on your IP address identification. Why is it that scary? Your IP address is followed any time you're on the internet! But hey, doesn't NSA know everything about you already? They have satellites up there and they can zoom in on any address anywhere in the world. Lucky for me this is not a terrorist web site or they would be at my front door now...... For more info: Peace on the journey, SunnyGirl

I guess the IP does give it away. I don't liek how they trick you though...having the same name, and saying she's a teacher and the same picture but THIS week it's a different city. Both cities mentioned were within 25 miles of me.
The last time I ran the virus scan, the onely thinkg i had was tracking cookies. I was not sure where I got those. I guess it was EOR. LIN
