Not sure what to call this, have several thoughts so am writing this to put some order to them.
One is that my meditations the last few days has said to be aware of those around you. I had the thought it was just family around me or people in meetings, but the every day Joe on the street and people who pass you. Some you may know or have known over the years, not just program people, but people who have lived where I have lived over the years.
It says we are to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Today I decided to go to the mall, even had the thought of going to the noon meeting. I would have had a 3/4 hour wait. After making the decision, I met a girl who I recently met in Al-Anon. I didn't see her, I saw her little boy and was looking at him, looked up and realized I knew his mother. Knew her but couldn't remember her name. We parted with a "hope" I'll see you tomorrow.
After meeting her, I had a choice, go left or right. I chose left and ran across a friend who came into AA the same time as I did. He said, "Which way are you going?" I said, "Any way is good for me," and we ended up going back the way I had come. We kept talking and sharing and would stop in the middle of the aisle and got asked to move a couple of times. We ended up parting where I had started from. the nice things was, when we parted, I went to the bus stop and my bus came almost right away.
I came home really tired and think I will take a nap. I am aware of the guy upstairs who is doing a lot of banging which means I will have to use my ear plugs.
So in conclusion, even though I ran out of steam and was in too much pain to go to a meeing, God supplied two people for me. Not just an AA meeting but an Al-Anon meeting too. I also handed out a letter for the AA person to give to his doctors which is about making people aware that alcoholism is a family disease. I also gave him an Al-Anon meeting list. We both agreed that a lot of our emotional sobriety is rooted in our childhood.
He is a recovering heroin addict and I was addicted to prescription pills and yet we are both alcoholics, it started with that first one!
