Last night at my f2f I chaired a meeting on detachment. I did the reading for SUnday June 6 in Hope for today....it brought up an interesting idea:
I have learned several techniques for detaching from the words and actions of others, but I forget to detach fro my own actions.
It's worth a read!

Wish I had the book but it is at my group and I will check it out tomorrow.
Never thought of the concept and unconsciously I think I have done it. Not sure I see it as a good thing, more like denial. I do know though that often we have to draw that blanket around us sometimes until such a time as we are able to deal with things.
I know I couldn't detach and pretend I didn't do it. I can detach from something and say, "this is what I did, that was then, this is now, I can't change it but I can learn from my mistake."
Hmmmmmm! Can't wait to read the book, hope I remember.

I agree. Denial was the word that came to my mind.
A cool thing...one lady comes to meetings now and then. She had read the June 6 Hope for today and had that thought on her mind and decided she eneded a meeting. Then she got htere and that's the reading I ahd picked out. SPOOKY!

Detachment has been very much on my mind these days. I got the pamphlet on detachment from my group last Wednesday.
On the pamphlet it says: "Detachment allows us to let go of our obsessions with another's behavior and begin to lead happier and more manageable lives, lives with dignity and rights, lives guided by a Power greater than ourselves. We can still love the person without liking the behavior."
This holds true with ourselves. I can learn to like and love myself even if my actions are less than who I would be in today.

Sometimes I think I just do, not associating it to a reading, or words shared by someone else, I just think of it as coming from my God.
That's not odd, that is God.
Although it wouldn't hurt to give more thought to detachment from Self and the great I am. I believe they call it ego.
