What can I 'do' differently today in order to 'feel' better?
"If you do what you always did-you'll get what you always got"
"Nothing changes, if nothing changes"
As many of you know, the slogans above are two of my
favorites. Every now and then I will get stuck and just
seem to feel kinda blah with my recovery and life itself.
Getting your car stuck in the mud and spinning your wheels
can be so frustrating, but so can getting stuck in a downward
spiral in your life. Just because I think a dumb thought doesn't
mean I have to act on it.... Many times that first thought is just
a big fat lie. I have learned that I am not responsible for that
first thought, but I am responsible for my next action. I don't
believe everything I think anymore.....
I have found that when I get into one of those moods, or
when life is reigning down chaos all around me, the best thing I
can do is hit my knees and pray. And then there is ACCEPTANCE!
Acceptance doesn’t mean I like where I’m at or what’s happening
in my life. It just means if I can't fix it, I will accept what ever it
is, and I will learn the lesson and grow from my experience.
I've found that journaling is excellent for my mental health!
Sometimes just getting my thoughts out in the open, helps to
relieve the pressure. It also let's me see that things aren't
really quite as bad as I first thought. Then I can think with
gratitude that no matter how tough life might be, that are so
many others that have it much worse. I list all the things
I feel grateful for, God really has given me so many wonderful
gifts.... Just distracting the bad thoughts and putting good
ones in their place can turn my whole outlook around.
Are you having a bad day, week, month, year? What can you
change or do different, to turn this around?
Peace on the journey, SG
