What makes you happy? When I was asked in treatment, I did not know.
I had lived my life through others and did not know that I had a right to my own happiness.
I had been self-medicated for so many years, that I didn't have much of a sense of feelings of any kind, certainly not happiness. Fear and anger, maybe if I allowed myself the luxury.
What makes me happy in today? Being with friends and sharing with others. Listening to music. Playing bridge. A good book, especially a J. D. Robb, a Fern Michaels, a Catherine Coulter, a Lee Child, a James Patterson, and so many more, every changing as I change. Being out in nature. Meditation and prayer and connecting to my Higher Power. The inner peace that I find as a result of this program. The freedom from active addiction.
In a way, it reads like a gratitude list. As long as I remember to be grateful, I will find lots of things that will grant me happiness.
Happiness is a feeling and isn't always there but is something we can cultivate. It is a choice.
What makes you happy today?

good topic Caressa....
Friends and family make me happy! Just talked with a girl friend, she and I go all the way back to grade school and we've kept in touch all these years. She has a wonderful personality and can always make me smile, we could talk for hours about life, politics, religion, you name it we've talked about it.
I think we make our own happiness.... I've learned that even when I am feeling cranky, I can smile and act happy until I get there. OR: FAKE IT TILL I MAKE IT
Another biggie for me...... I makes me happy to put a smile on other peoples faces. Random acts of kindness really can cause a chain reaction! Giving another person a hand up or a pat on the back can make them feel 10 feet tall and that make me feel good about myself!

A happy, happy morning! Met several old friends I hadn't seen for a while and friend who I see regularly. As one friend said, "We just had a one on one meeting." She was in the rooms when I came in and when she got clean and sober she decided to work in the field, so seeing her was bonus.
I chose to take a different aisle to the library from my bank and saw the new Lee Child book sitting on a front table. The bookstore just opened as I started toward it. That is what I call my God working in my life.
The only thing that was off putting in today was going into one of my favorite stores, seeing a sign under crusty rolls that said 2/$1. and the woman said they are 99 cents each. I said in that case I don't want them. I thought I was getting a deal. I should have gone back with her to check it out but chose not to make a big deal of it which is a big thing for me which shows me that the program is working in me.
I was not happy though when I got home and opened my load of what was labelled Egg bread with raisins only to find no raisins. I love egg bread, really shouldn't have it because it has a lot of sugar in it. I was justifying buying it for the raisins and telling myself it was good for me. So it serves me right and teaches me what goes around, comes around. I need to make healthy choices if I wish to stay healthy and happy.

Yesterday was a happy day for me.....
All of my blood work came back normal and my lungs have cleared up and I can breath a lot easier. I have not thrown the cigs away but am still down to about 3-5 a day and this is encouraging for me. I am going to go with the Chantix and work the steps as I go..
Peace on the journey.... SG

Happy for you! Always good to get a healthy bill of goods from a doctor.
Had a great day and meandered around the market. I love being around the fresh food. I seldom open a can or a box or a frozen package.
Food can be a happy occasion as long as I choose healthy and what is good for me. If I don't, I end up with guilt and resentment that I can't eat the way i use ot.
A lot is my attitude. I know there are alternatives.

A phone call from my kids makes me happy! Every single time they call it makes me smile.... The oldest son called today to find out about the results of my blood tests, told him all was good news and he was relieved to hear all is well.
It's comforting to know that the small things we give and receive can make us happy.... Hugs, SG

In today, sunshine makes me happy. I am happy when I can get on line and post on the site. I am in a lot of pain so have to call it a day, but that is okay, as I have received the food for thought that I needed for today.

What makes you happy today? Good topic! There are many reasons to be grateful. And yes, you're right. Happiness is a choice. What makes me happy? For me? God! Happiness is knowing that God is always there even though I'm not deserving. If you have this happiness with God and a good relationship with Him, every aspect in your life will follow. Your family, your friends, partner, career, problems, etc.

Hi Jeffrob----You remind me of the 5th step in the program, it says "admitted to God, ourselves, & one other human being the exact nature of our wrongs. The order that it is put in goes along with what you are saying!!!------Bunnypie

Thanks for sharing Jeff. You are so right, God makes all things happen, when we walk with Him.
