A is for Awareness. I need to be aware of what is around me, of other people, my reaction to them, and how they relate to me. I need to be aware of what I need to change, what no longer serves me in good stead in today.

B is for Belonging. When I came into the rooms of AA, I got a sense of belonging. I had found where I needed to be. I also found the same in Al-Anon. I was told that I was doubly blessed.

"B"....Believe...Believe in your Higher Power...He has given us a moral compass to live by and a perfect example. When a delimma arises; we can ask ourselves.."What would the Master do?"....and ...Believe in yourself....

C is for Choices. I have freedom of choice in today. I can choose to be happy, I can choose to be sad. I can choose to sit with a feeling or I can choose to let it go. I can choose to stay in a situation, or I can choose to detach from it. Just for today, I choose to love and even like myself.

D is for Divine. For me "Divine Orderly Good" comes from the Good Orderly Direction that I get from a Group of Drunks/Drug Addicts. I call it the God/Dog syndrome. It doesn't matter if your belief in God is different from other people's, all you are asked to do is believe in that 'divine' intervention that can separate you from your drug of choice and deviate you onto a path of recovery.

D is for: Direction "By admitting that we are unable to manage our own lives, we become ready to let a Higher Power take over. Before we can fully benefit from God's Direction, we must let go completely of the idea that we are in control." - - Food for Thought

E is for Exceptions. There are few exceptions to the guidelines, they are not rules, only suggestions but for where I stood, they always seemed like darn well betters. I was told that I wasn't expected to get better over night, I didn't get this way overnight, I wouldn't heal over night.

"F" Is for Faith in a power greater than myself that can restore me to sanity..It does not say will...but does say "can"..which means I have to be willing to accept that healing...and be willing to work for it.

E is for: Emotions "Remember that life does not follow an even and steady path. There are peaks and valleys and everything that falls between. We can learn to keep or Emotions in check whether we are on the high or low end of the spectrum." - - Barb Kampbell
F is for: Finish “Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in, forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day, you shall begin it well and serenely...” - - Ralph Waldo Emerson

F is for Fear. Face everything and recovery. There are healthy fears, like not walking in front of a bus. When I first came into recovery it was fear of missing a meeting, fear that I would use if I didn't go to a meeting. That fear turned into faith that the program would work for me.

H is for Honest. Not only cash register honest, but self honesty. Taking off the rose-coloured glasses, removing the blanket of denial, and taking out the ear plugs which filter out what we don't want to hear. We can no longer look at the world with blinders on or with tunnel vision. We can no longer have selective hearing. We need to become aware and act on that awareness.
