Hi Everybody - I found this recovery discussion forum by doing a google search. I read some of the posts and you folk's look like a friendly group of alcoholics.
I just celebrated my 25th year of sobriety, a day at a time. I'd like to stop in here on my breaks and visit with you guys and share a little experience, strength and hope.
I hope to become friends with you here.
Thank you......51Cards

I was at an Open meeting when an old timer was asked how long he was clean and sober. His response was that "we each have only one day at a time and all those days accumulate."
I am not trying to make light of anyone's clean time, but we must all remain vigilent in our recoveries.
Love and God Bless lildee

Dear Lildee,
How true it is to be ever watchful of where you are at in your recovery. I was at the Women's Detox tonight and it is women there who do the research for me, it is really important for me to be around newcomers.
I must never get to a stage in my recovery where I think I know it all, and that I don't need the fellowship any more. That I have no more to learn, and that I am fixed, because the next thing I know I will be out there looking for a fix-me-upper. I am glad the newcomer is here for me as well as the long-timers like 51 cards that reminds me that it can be done one day at a time.
It has been a while since I was at detox, I have done most of my service work in the jails, and yet I was never in jail a day in my life, but no one was more a prisoner of their own mind than I was. I didn't need steel bars to keep me bound and isolated.
I go there to share with them the message of freedom and that they don't have to go back there either, that there is a better way although some don't think so.
It doesn't matter what fellowship you belong to, it is soundness of mind for twenty-four hours. Whichever way you look at it, it isn't easy. It is a simple program for people who try to complicate it. Don't pick up, don't use (any substance) just for today. It isn't the substance that constitutes the problem, it is me. Thank goodness we only have to do it one day at a time.

It is so important that we remeber that we all share the same 24 and that is all we have. It does not matter if this is the first day sober or we have a number of years of 24's that we have put together. I am thankful that most do not count years in the program. I could not grasp the program and it took me 11 years to finally remain sober. started in 81 and could not put any length of time together. Finally I went to the second place addiction can take you to. I was insane already and ended up in prison and realized that I did not want to die in addiction. I was really lucky and was put into a treatment in prison with a bunch of people who went in and out of prison because of thier addiction. I had a spiritual awakeing while in there and have stayed sober for over 11 years now and life has gotten good inspite of myself. really grateful for all of you who stood by me when i came back time after time. One day at a time is what works for me
