When I read today's reading from Food for Thought, this is what came to mind.
I can't go back and change my past. I made choices in the past, and hopefully I learned from them. When I live in today, turn each day over to my Higher Power, the direction is there. Again, it is whether I choose to listen to it. I am granted freedom of choice.
Often when I look at the past in today, it prevents me from moving forward. I look at things with fear and I fear taking a risk or the next step in my recovery because I base my decisions on the past instead of making new ones in today. When I think negative, I attract it to me. If I keep looking back, I can't look forward.
What I forget is that I have a Higher Power. When I ask for His help and guidance, I don't have to make the same mistakes, things will not turn out the same if I take Him with me and put things in His care.
What was was. What is in today, is a new perspective and a new chance at life.

In the Big Book it says in the Promises, We will not regret the past, or wish to shut the door on it. It also says, We will find a new freedom and a new happiness. That is what kept me coming back even though I was in denial about being an alcoholic.
