Life is too short to spend it miserable. An excellent way to abate misery is to look at what you are blessed with. Unclench your angry fist, hold it up, and use your fingers to name five things you are grateful for. (P.S. we mean now!) Thanks for sharing. I heard Pain is essential, Misery is optional. Doesn't matter how you say, it growth can be painful. Recovery is a lot of grief work. Letting go of old people, places and things.

Many times we thought we used chemicals because we were unhappy, but nine times out of ten in coming to this program, we discovered "Better living through chemicals" is what made us unhappy! I know that happiness comes from the inside out, Not the outside in. Excerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books

Every human being is a design of Divine Intention. The complex patterns of the universal cycles are not always understood, yet the world works so perfectly to sustain the cycles of life. You may not understand why you are chemically dependent, but rest assured there is a purpose in your cycle of sobriety.
I recognize the value of all Divine Intention, And trust in God's purpose for me. Excerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books

Try to live your life without adding to your Eight Step list. You have enough wreckage to clear up from the past without creating wreckage in the now. When I feel my worst, I try my best. Exerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books

Even when it hurts like hell, hold fast. The pain is the arrow coming out, not the arrow going in. Faith is not about trusting a God who will rescue you from arrows but trusting in the process. Faith will center you, not rescue you. As the pain and fear pass, I hold fast. Excerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books

If you are not happy with what you have, what makes you think you would be happy with more? Happiness is not having what I want but Wanting what I have. Excerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books

Yes, there are times you can't sleep, someone hurts your feelings, the dog pisses on your carpet, and the boss doesn't like your work. Take two aspirin and adjust!
Nothing is going to happen to me That You and I can't handle together.

In our fellowship, there are always those who feel they have the ultimate wisdom to impart to you. These highly verbose people may set your nerves on edge with incredibly self-serving "words of wisdom." They may be full of themselves, but they are probably not trying to hurt you. If I judge people, I have no time to love them. Excerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books

Have you ever found yourself saying, "I can't believe this!" because things have gotten out of hand? You can't believe it because it's gotten out of your hand. This is the time to laugh at yourself for trying to control again-poke fun at the situation, your beliefs, whatever. Have fun. "When things get goofy beyond belief, it's time to stop Believing and get goofy." ~Pat Samples, Daily Comforts for Caregivers Excerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books

Don't ever think you have nothing left to learn in the fellowship and that everyone wants to hear you talk incessantly because you are so wise. You can not have an open mouth and an open mind at the same time. When I do all the talking, I can only Hear what I already know. Many problems will be averted with a very simple code for behavior. This is called "kindness." Kindness is more then politeness; it means a warm concern for the other person's feelings. I let my kindness be a gift to another and the tag reads "Please handle with tender loving care." Excerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books

Unity in our program does not mean conformity. Unity means joining for a common purpose, despite our differences. I can disagree without being disagreeable. Excerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books

The only difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones is how you use them. No person, place, or thing can place blocks in your path if you chose to use them as steps. I lift my feet as I use the blocks before me t (Twelve) Step up to the challenge. Excerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books

Even though you are a unique human being, you are not so unique that your recovery is any different then thousands before you. If you think we don't understand something about your situation, then your disease is playing tricks on you. I am unique, just like everyone else. There is nothing about you that was not intended to be. You have an incredibly sacred purpose. I am on purpose. Excerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books
Day Twenty/10:00 AM:
Egotism is that certain something that enables a man in a rut to think he's in a groove.
I am never in a rut when I can answer this question, "What Step am I working now?"
Excerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books
"This life's five windows of the soul,/ distorts the Heavens from pole to pole,/ and leads you to believe a lie, / When you see with, not thro', the eye." ~William Blake. It is by looking through the windows of the soul you find the understanding of what your life presents, not by seeing with your physical eyes what is or isn't on the earth.
I close my eyes in order to "see" what my Higher Power presents to me.

Do not be satisfied to drift with the currents, hoping that somehow, somewhere all will work out. Take action. Do not put off today what you can do tomorrow. I grow as a result of my efforts, not my complacency. Excerpt from the Pocket Sponsor, By The Hazelden author of ' Day By Day' & other Meditation Books
