M is for Meetings. When you need an attitude adjustment, go to a meeting. Meeting makers make it!

N is for Nothing. No one can make you do anything you don't want to do. Nothing can make you do anything as long as you are willing to stay clean and sober. It doesn't have the power. If we turn our prayers and ask our God for help, we are empowered to say, "No" and my surrendering we win. There is nothing in today that is worth me picking up a drink or a drug over.

O is for Opinion. Everyone has one and has the right to express it. I try to keep an open mind and try to find out where the person is coming from and remember that I haven't walked in their shoes and they haven't walked in mine. As they say, Sobriety is a necessity. Serenity is an option.

Q is for Quit. Quit while you are ahead, you don't have to go all the way to the dump like some of us did.

R is for Recovery. Everyone qualifies. It works when you work for it. We do recover from that hopeless state of mind and body.

S is for Sanity. It says that God could restore us to sanity, it doesn't say He always would. When things get a bit crazy, I try to go back to Step Two. It says some times we have to take this Step a little at a time. Some days, I need to go back there and remember the ABCs of recovery. I can't, God can, just for today, I choose to let Him.

U is for Unable. There are those who are constitutionally unable to be honest with themselves. When I am unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I go to my Higher Power and ask Him for clarity, strength to carry on, until such a time, I am able to find that spark of hope. When all seems lost, understand that it can be a MOMENTARY block, often of my own making.

V is for Vision. The Native American's go on a Vision Quest. When I was a year sober, I realized I didn't know who God was to me. He had been an old tape, someone who others told me about. I went on a Spiritual Vision Quest at a year sober. Have a vision, plan but don't plan the outcome. Your God may have a very different view of what it is you need and where He would have you be. According to Jamie Sams:
A Vision Quest speaks of a time of new direction or strengthening of the present path based on personal truth Some times to find this truth it is necessary to Enter the Silence and remove personal confusion.
Remember in seeking you are asking for answers; be willing to accept and recognize the truth when it comes to you. Recognition and acceptance always precede inner-knowing.

W is for Willing. I often need to pray for the willingness to be willing. I had to be willing to do whatever it took to stay clean and sober. I need that willingness daily.

X is for X-Ray. This is still my favourite. Remember that we heal from the inside out. Is your body speaking to you and trying to get your attention? Perhaps it is trying to tell you something, about an old body memory, a grief that you haven't properly grieved, something still hidden inside that you are keeping a secret, which wants to be let out so it can heal.

Y is for You. Take care of you. You are worthwhile. You do deserve recovery. Although it isn't one of my favourite slogans, it is something I often have to utilize, "Fake it until you make it."

Z is for Zero. When my score card read Zero, I was willing to enter the doors of recovery. Relapse was no longer an option, it was do you want to live or die. I chose life, through the 12 Steps of Recovery, to fill my score card up. www.aa.org/pages/en_US/alcoholics-anonymous
