A is for Acceptance. Acceptance of my disease. The acceptance of myself. The acceptance of where I am at in the moment, knowing it is subject to change. The key to change and I can't move forward until I find that acceptance. I don't have to like it, I just have to accept it. Attachments:

C is for Caretaker. It is okay to be a caretaker as long as I remember to take care of me first. I can't give away what I don't have. I can't operate on fumes. I am not giving my best when I am feeling less than.

D is for Denial. Putting on the blanket of denial only prolongs the pain and covers up the issue. We need to bring things out into the open and into the light so they can heal. Denial kept me sick for a very long time. We are as sick as our secrets, when we deny them, we stay sick.

E is for Easy Does It. We are not bad trying to get good. We are sick from the disease of alcoholism, trying to heal.

H is Humble. Humble doesn't mean humility. It isn't humiliating to admit you don't know. You can't know what you have never been taught. You are not your disease. Be open to learning, become teachable. Attachments:

M is for Musts. They say there are not musts in this program, but I have found that there are many darn well betters or you just might find find yourself slipping back into old behaviours, patterns, and habits that are a part of your dis-ease instead of your recovery.

N is for Now. Live in the now. This is a one day at a time program. Yesterday is gone, we can't change it. Tomorrow never comes. Now is when I can make a decision and I can make it any time during my day. I can stop at any time during this 24 hours and stop and say the Serenity Prayer and start a new day.

O is for Over. Your life isn't over when you quit using drugs and alcohol, it is just beginning. It is surprising what you can do when sober. Over time working the program, one day at a time, it does get better. Life doesn't always get better, stuff still comes our way, but we get better, and we overcome that helpless state of mind and body. Open to a new way living. Open your mind and heart, don't limit your God by narrow vision and a blind eye as to how He can work in your life.

P is for Patience. Have it if you can. Have found that I have had to go to my God many times over to ask for it, only to find that it is a thing of practice, practice, practice.
