A is for Attitude. The best way to adjust one is to go to a meeting. A positive one can be good, but an overbearing one, is best left behind. I need to be aware, and turn it over to my HP and ask for help to change it. Attachments:

B is for Blessings. Today I saw a T-Shirt and the thought has stayed with me all day. It read, "I am too blessed to be stressed." Works for me! Attachments:

C is for Care. Take care of yourself. Top yourself up and only give away the overflow. You can't give away what you don't have. Take time to go to your filling station and remember to care for your body, mind, and spirit.

D is for D.O.G. I call it the God/Dog syndrome. Good Orderly Direction/Divine Orderly Good. The dog according to Jamie Sams, stands for loyalty. No matter what, the dog's love is unconditional.

E is for Easy Does it...but do it! So often we hear the first part of this slogan and forget the rest. I think the "but do it" was probably added later, but it is true. Don't beat yourself up, you aren't in a race, as long as you don't pick up a drink or a drug in today, you can move at your own pace and allow yourself to heal.

F is for Fresh. Take a fresh new look at your recovery each morning. Remember that each day is a new beginning. Put on a new pair of glasses and pick up a new meditation book, say a new prayer, put on some music, take a walk in the park. Freshening your sobriety can take you out of complacency.

G is for Growth. We only get out of the program what we put into it. Do we nurture ourselves and feed the body, mind, and spirit? Do you see growth in your recovery or are you marking time and just staying sober one day at a time? Are you in the same place you were in ten years ago?

H is for Honest. I had to get honest with me. For most of my life I was cash register honest, although my father would give me a $20. bill to get himself a 26er of rye, which cost $16. way back when. He would say, "Where is my change?" I said, "That is transportation charges." I stole time and affection if I could, I came to realize that when I drank, I wasn't a very nice person. My God sent me a dream to show me how other peope saw me, and it was not a pretty picture. I thought I was hot stuff, and the truth was the picture needed to be burned and I needed to clean up my act and have another picture taken. If I can't be honest with me, how can I be honest with you?

I is for Integrity. This is my favourite "I" because it doesn't mean being "I" centered but God Centered and walking your talk.

J is for Joy. If you aren't enjoying recovery, what are you doing wrong? What gives you joy? perhaps you need to re-evaluate your life. Let the Inner Child out to play.

K is for Knowing. Each day I try to remember for my Inner Know, my own personal truth. Some day I found I know what to do; or what I shouldn't do and do it anyway. As my spiritual adviser says, "When the time is right, you will know." If you don't know, then don't; the time is not right."

L is for Live and Let Live. It took me a while to get this one right, and I can still stick my nose in where it doesn't belong. I am suppose to live my own life and allow others to live theirs. I am suppose to let them live with their choices and mind my own business. What a sponsor said many years ago, "What other people think of you is none of your business, and what you think of them, is none of their business.

M is for Moment. Live in the moment. When you are in the now, there is no room for worry about the past and fear of the unknown ahead.

N is for Newcomer. They are important. They carry the message, "Hey it isn't any better out there, don't go back, STAY in recovery. It also helped me to go to a meeting with the mind set of when I was a newcomer. I was willing to do anything, not to go back to where I came from. It kept me humble and open to learning what others had to say. In today, I need to be humble and remember that this program is one day at time and it doesn't matter how many one day at a times I have, all I have is today.

O is for Open. An open mind is good. An open heart is better. Be open to receive God's Gracious Gifts. You can't receive with your arms and legs crossed, that is shutting down and not willing to accept what the Universe is sending you. I need to remember to say thank you.

P is for Patience. Have it if you can. According to Jamie Sams, the ant represents patience. I fed a black one part of my honeybun today. My patience paid off, my bus came and I made it to my appointment in time. It is good to wait and just be in the moment, instead of wishing your life away and getting anxious and angry.

Q is for Quit. Quit acting out in your disease. Go to your HP and ask for help. The program is applicable to all areas of our disease. I need to quit with the hissy fits, the unhealthy choices, the uncouth reactions, and all things that isn't condusive to serenity.

R is for Rest. Don't rest on your laurels, this is one day at a time. Rest in the arms of your Higher Power, He/She will restore you mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Lean on Him/Her and ask for renewal and clarity of thought and action.

T is for TRY. All I am asked to do is try. I try to be the best me that I can be in today. I try to follow the Good Orderly Direction that I get from my Higher Power. I try not to be the be all and end all that I thought I was when I was using. I try to change my attitude to a positive instead of a negative. I don't always have the answer and as we shared after the meeting today, "My sponsor said, "Go within, you have the answers." I replied, "Yes, but I don't know the questions. Too often I not only questioned myself but my God too. As I have share before, "God give me a little hint so we both will know.

U is for Understanding. The 12 Steps are a spiritual program that makes room for all religions. It is 'God' as I understand Him. Not how you understand, not as my sponsor understand Him, or how my parents or minister/priest/rabbi..., understand Him. It is my personal relationship with my God, that walks with me on the road to recovery.
