A is for. Attitude. What needs to be changed in me and my attitude? It takes one to know one. The best way to get an attitude adjustment is to go to a meeting.

B is for Basic Text and The Big Book. They are for reading people. They have a tale to tell. Take the words off the pages and apply them to your life.

C is for Clean. Clean away the wreckage of your past. Cleanse your body, mind and spirit. Clean away the old to make room for the new.

D is for Divine. A friend asked me what dog meant to me. I said, loyalty and unconditional love. I am reminded of what I call the God/Dog Syndrome. It doesn't matter that you and I do not have the same understanding of God.
God - Good Orderly Direction Dog - Divine Orderly Good

E is for Evil. Evil is Live spelled backward. It is a crime when we don't live our own life. Trying to live someone else's life is wrong too. We don't have the power to play God even though we try.
The slogan. Live and Let Live is the key. Live our own life and allow others to make their own choices. Let them experience life for themselves.

F is Forgiveness. A gift we give ourselves. Our God is loving, caring, and forgiving of us. Why should we not forgiveourselves. We forgive others because they too are in their disease. We can't always forgive the act, but we need to find some measure of forgiveness for the person, in order to heal.

G is for Gratitude. Our Canadian Thanksgiving is this weekend. Gratitude is something we need daily. It is nice though when you can spend it with family.

I is for Isolation. Isolation blocks me from the empowerment of our God.

J is for Just because. Just because I can and don't have to justify my existence. I don't have to have a reason to join but I can just be me. That is enough

L is for Last. You don't have to wait for that last House on the block before you reach out and ask for help. Addiction leads to Jails, Institutions, and death.
This is a progressive disease. A disease that tells you that you don't have it. Don't be late, we would like to meet you before you get to the morgue.

M is for Me, Myself, and I. That is the ISMs of my disease. Spelled backwards they are what I need to do for my recovery. Me, I have to stay clean no matter what. Without my sobriety (soundness of mind) I have nothing. Myself, it is my recovery. It isn't for friend's, family, or loved ones. I need to workrk my own programme and find what works for me. I, the hardest one of all. Keeping me last and out of the equation. I need to PRACTICE the principles in all my affairs. This is a one day at a time programme. I am still practicing.

N is for No. No is a complete sentence. Set boundaries. Keep them in place. Reinforce them.

O is for Opportunity. I just lost one. I lost another post and have to meet the challenge of remembering my thoughts. We are granted windows of enlightenment and doors of opportunity if we are willing to work for them.

P is for Prayer. It doesn't need to be a formal one. They say the shortest Prayer is "Help!" You can't wear out the Serenity Prayer. Your God is your new best friend and you need to learn to communicate with Him/Her and build a relationship. Prayer is for asking and meditation is for listening.
They say pray with out ceasing. I believe it means to not stop praying. It doesn't mean to pray for the same thing over and over again. That is lack of faith, I try to trust my God to have heard me the first time. Tomorrow is a new day and I can pray again.

Q is for Quiet. We listen for the quiet (of the storms of life), then we say the Serenity Prayer. We came say the prayer any time, but if we really want to connect with our God, we need to find that space.
Osho calls it the Hole in the donut. A state of No Mind. We get out of the way so we have a clear Channel to the God of our understanding.

R is for Renewal. I had to look at it and do an inventory. What no longer served me, what did I need to add, what was I missing that I us to do, do I need to implement some kind of change. Had I become complacent and slothful in working the steps. I had to renew my outlook, pray and ask for new awareness and knowing. It generally meant a change in attitude.

S is for Serenity. I didn't know what it was the first time my sponsor suggested that I had found it. It was completely foreign to me. Even today, before I came out, I pulled a chaos card. I asked for what I needed to change the energy around me. I ask for what I need for my Higher Good.

T is for. Be true to yourself. That doesn't mean to be willful and close down your min d and not be willing to change.
We say things have worked for us for years, yet our best thinking got us to the doors of recovery. We have to learn to trust that in ner voice.
