A is for Acceptance. It is not always easy to accept ourselves. I am not my disease. I do deserve recovery. It is good to affirm our self acceptance of who we are. NA has a great pamphlet on self-acceptance. Worth reading.

Blessed. That is what is for Blessings. We who have found 12 Step programs are truly blessed to have found this new way of life. Those of us who are blessed to qualify for more than one Fellowship, are Doubly Blessed. That is what I was told when I went to Al-Anon. I qualify for just about any room you want to put me in. The Blessings just keep coming.

C is for Change. If nothing changes nothing changes. If I want to grow in this Fellowship I need to continue working the steps and through the steps I change and get honest and grow spiritually.
What use to work no longer serves its purpose.

D is for Discipline. Discipline is more like a defect of character than a recovery tool. I have very little of it, other than staying in the moment.
It is more like a shortcoming. I fall short of being disciplined. I am a go with the flow type of person. The only real discipline I try to manage is to be in the moment, live in the now.

E is for Everything. That is what my sponsor told me I had to change. Do the opposite of what you were doing and then you will have everything just about right. 😘

F is for Freedom. Freedom from active addiction. I am powerless over people, places, and things and I don't have the power to control then. If you have to control then, they are already out of control
Freedom to be ourselves. to change and become the person we truly are, not living our lives through others

G is for Gratitude. It is the time of the year to be grateful for our God's Gracious Gifts. We think on all the goodness we have received and say thank you it is good to remember to say thank you when the gifts are granted.

H is for Hugs. Hugs make you feel better. You exchange energy from on person to another, it is not meant to be a free feel. Hugs not drugs. Just for today, I choose not to use.

I is for Intuition. Tap into you inner knowing. For women it I said to be their intuition. For men it it is their gut feelings. Always figured I had both. We all have a masculine and feminine side, so when we are balanced, our inner self is centered too.

J is for Joy. Experience the joy of recovery. You do that by stating clean and connecting to your God. Nothing like the joy of your heart filling up and feeling like it is going to bust.
In Jamie Sam's book on animal medicine, joy is depicted by the humming bird

K is for Kitchen. The kitchen can be a place of refuge, a place to go when you need to get out of Self. Osho says that doing dishes is a form of meditation. I don't like doing dishes, but I can see his point. Water is very grounding for me.
I would rather cook or bake.

L is for Love. Love yourself. You are loved. You are lovable.
When you have learned to love yourself, then you have to learn to like yourself. That takes a lot more acceptance.

M is for Meetings. They say meeting maker make it. I know I needed to fill that void with spiritual things. Meetings did that for me. I did 2 meetings a day for 2 years and quite often 3 if I could get a ride. I found myself reflected in the people who shared there.

N is for Normal. We do not metabolise alcohol the way "normal" people do. I don't know about you, but I don't always have normal thought patterns running around in my head. From what I hear, normal is a cycle on a washing machine. I seldom use that cycle either.

O is for Out In recovery, we no longer look for something outside ourselves. We turn things around and look within for our answers. We go to the God of our understanding for help. We need to fill the void left within when we put down the drugs, alcohol, food, gambling, and other things we went to for comfort. I can't, my God can, just for today, I choose to let Him/Her/It.

P is for Patience. I find myself wanting everything yesterday. My patience got up and went.
Waiting has never been one of my strong points.

Q is for Quiet. Quiet your mind. It takes lots of practice, practice, practice....
Empty your head of thought. Wrap those thoughts in a brown paper bag (recycle). Get rid of the old to make room for the new. We need the quiet to hear what the Universe is sending our way.

R is for Reflection. This word reminds me of Step Ten. What you see in others, is a reflection of what is within you. It takes one to know one. This means the good and the ot so good. As they say "when you point a finger at someone, you have three fingers pointing back at you."

S is for Spiritual. LoL at my last posts listing spiritual principles
When you love theses principles you live God like and you no longer try to play God with your life and the life of others.

T is for TRY. The last letter of the words Just For Today, spells try. All we are asked to do is try to do our best each day. Some days I fall short of my best, but all I can do is try again.
