I knew the Natalie Wood question..not so sure about the Black Friday.
I THINK is it because it is the day that determines how well they think they will do is sales for the whole Christmas season.

It is called Black Friday because that is when all the stores make their profits and their books change from a deficit to a surplus. They move from being in the red to being in the black.
