A is for Attitude. What do I need to change my attitude? Is attitude positive or negative in your life?

D is for Detachment. That doesn't mean I don't love, it means because I do love you, you have to find your own way. What works for me may not work for you. What works for you may not work for me.

F is Failure. There are no failures in this program. All we are asked to do is try. The only way you can fail is to not try. Winning is about picking yourself up and trying again. Failures are learning experiences and growth lessons for me.

G is for Glory. We give the God of our Understanding the Glory. When He works in our live and in that of others, we give Him credit. We don't have the power to keep someone sober or make them stop from going back out.

H is for Honesty. I could be honest with you, sometimes too honest, but honest with me was another story. Looking at myself and being honest about what I saw and who I was was not easy and an uphill battle in my journey to recovery.

I is for Integrity. Walking my talk is important to me. This is a 24 hour program not a 2-4 hour program.

J is for Judgement. I was my own taskmaster, always beating myself up. I had to learn to judge myself so rigidly and accept my humanness. I had to stop playing the God of my life and that of others. Recovery starts with me, I can't help anyone else unless I am willing to help myself.

J is for Just. It is okay to 'just' be. It is okay to be just where I am, nothing happens in God's world by mistake. I don't have to justify my life.

L is for Laugh. The ability to laugh at myself was a great gift. Especially when I make a mistake like I did above.

M is for Me. Today has been a day of taking care of me. I fell getting off the bus with my walker today. I stooped to pick up my purse and my leg wouldn't hold me and I ended up on the sidewalk. People tried to help me up but it caused me too much pain and I had to do what I call the 'granny' roll to get up. I didn't go down hard and although I was shaken up I wasn't hurt. Coming home and giving myself some TLC after talking to my sponsor helped me to relax with a book. There seems to be no side affects.

N is for Now. Living in the now is the freedom of recovery. Letting go of the pain of the past and the fear of the future allows me to heal and live in today.

O is for One. There is only one way to stop drinking, don't pick up that first drink. One is too many, a thousand never enough.

P is for Patience. Patience with myself and others. To learn patience, I found a lot of things were put in my path that I had to learn to tolerate. As my sponsor said, "Practice, practice, practice."

R is for Restitution. Didn't mean any harm, but I see that I got a little mixed up in my alphabet. An old pattern for me, in a hurray and not looking at the old picture before I react. God and I have been working on this over the years but it looks like there is more work to be done.

S is for Solution. The solution is the 12 Steps. The problem is not the booze and drugs, the problem is me and by using the solution, I can heal and recover.

T is Truth. I had to find my own Truth. What was right for me. There were so many old tapes that I had to look at what was no longer serving me in today and make new ones.
