Easy Does It But Do It
We can't rush recovery. Insights and serenity come in their own due time. The Steps make sense when we work them carefully and methodically. Easy does it, reminds us to be gentle with ourselves and not take on more than we can handle. We need to try to approach life in a relaxed manner while taking responsibility for living in the solution. Things if life have a way of unfolding slowly when we are willing and patient.
I would encourage any or all of you to share a favorite slogan, or chose one you're using in your life today. The is an open thread, for all that want to contribute.

Let It Begin With Me.
I have always thought of this Slogan as an Al-Anon one and yet I heard an Al-Anon member say it was an AA one. It doesn't matter where it came from, it is what I need to remember.
I have to take responsibility of my own actions. I have to quit playing the blame game. I need to stop taking on false guilt, pride, projections and take my own inventory. I had to make things right with my God. No more self justification and rationalization.
Step Ten reminds me that for every finger I point at someone I have three coming back at me. I can't work this program for someone else, it is for my own health and well being.
It isn't about taking someone else's inventory, but applying Steps Four - Ten to my own life.

Thanks for sharing Caressa
Let It Begin With Me....
This slogan reminds me to keep the focus on me.... It reminds me that I need to be responsible for my own actions and behavior. The only changes I can make, center around me, I need to take action to begin those changes, instead of waiting for others to change or meet my needs.
Peace on the journey, SunnyGirl

"If you do what you always did-you'll get what you always got"
"Nothing changes, if nothing changes"
These sayings remind me....
If I don't learn from my mistakes I will undoubtedly repeat them. It's like a very tall man, who bumps his head on a door jamb, he better learn to duck or he's going to continue to have a very sore head.

Lin thanks for the reminder.... We did have some great Nar-Anon meetings and I do remember the one on "Nothing changes if nothing changes". That one came from the heart, because I was struggling with change..... Have always loved the symbolic butterfly ..... SG

But For The Grace Of God
“But For The Grace Of God” is one of my favorite slogans. It helps to remind me to be more compassionate with my addicted loved ones. This slogan can help all of us avoid getting so impatient, criticizing, resentful and vindictive, which would hurt us as well as to others.
But for the Grace of God, we might have been afflicted by this sickness. But for the Grace of God is a slogan about gratitude and being thankful.
God cares, but cannot move through a hardened heart. ...

HESITATE AND MEDITATE! A long time ago I was told this was a Canadian thing and a friend had never heard it in the states.
This was a slogan that helped me to take my foot out of my mouth and prevented me from putting the other one in!
All my life it seemed like I was on defensive mode and when I was angry or felt threatened, I hit out and pushed everyone away. Before I acted on those old feelings and acted out those old behaviours, the program gave me the tools to stop and think about what I was doing and ask myself whether I wanted to change or continue doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
This went along with STOP, LOOK, AND LISTEN!

Keep It Simple
The slogan, “Keep It Simple” helps to remind us that simple solutions are often the most effective ones. This slogan can help us look at what really is happening rather than what we imagine may happen, and to take a reasonable, step by step approach rather than act out of fear or panic.

LIVE AND LET LIVE
The slogan "Live And Let Live", speaks of our relationships not only with our addicted loved one's but others as well. This is a reminder that most of us need--often. Our only concern should be our own conduct, our own improvement, our own lives. We are entitled to our own view of things, but we have no right to inflict it on anyone else. Tolerance can add to the quality of our daily lives, resentments and self-pity diminishes our capacity to live a happy life.
Peace on the journey, SunnyGirl

The key for me was Live my own life and not focus so much on others that I forget to take care of myself, deal with my own issues, and by looking out at others and their lives, I am not truly living my own and am back living my life through others. I am back existing instead of being an active participant in my own life. I often remind my son, "Mother does have a life you know!" To him it may be small, but that is okay. It is important that I don't put my life on hold for him. That was something I did for years.

Attitude of Gratitude
We often don’t have control over our circumstances, but we are in charge of our attitude. We choose how we wish to respond to the good that happens, the bad events, and all those in between.
I choose to focus on the positive and turn away from the negative in life. I don’t bury my head in the sand, but I do believe in the wonder of gratitude and I practice it. Just for today I will have an Attitude of Gratitude…… H.U.G.S. ~SG~

"THINK"
“Think” helps us to remember to think before we act on, or react to situations. This slogan helps us make good decisions about how to act. When we apply this slogan, it helps free us from distorted thinking and impulsive, potentially destructive decision-making.

Let Go And Let God
The slogan, “Let Go And Let God” helps us to let go of trying to control things we can not control. When our attempts at control are not working, when we feel we have run out of options, when we don’t know what we can do, this slogan helps us trust that a Power greater than ourselves will help us when the time is right.
I can't, God can! Always something I need to remember.... HUGS... ~SG~

I try be open minded about things. The duck is not like some other BIRDS. It usually takes a lot to raddle the duck's cage. But than this duck doesn't live in a cage like SOME BIRDS do. If something appears to be out of my hands and I have no control over it I do my best to turn it over. Worrying over things I have no control over is just a pure waste of energy.
Have a great day,

Watch out for the fellow who talks about putting things in order! Putting things in order always means getting other people under your control.
Denis Diderot (1713 - 1784), Supplement to Bougainville's 'Voyage,' 1796
Control was an illusion for me. If I need to control it, it is already out of control.

Just For Today
The slogan, “Just For Today” tells us that things are more manageable when we deal with and live in the present. Things that seem way too difficult to manage long term may seem more manageable if we deal with them just for today. We can move forward in small steps rather than be overwhelmed by trying to change everything at one time.
"Just for today I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me." __Al-Anon

"Utilize don't critize!" There is a group here in the city who has a slogan tree. This is the second branch. The first one is "Use it or lose it!" Both work for me!

“How Important Is This?"
"How important is it?" does not mean that I always back down. It has helped me set important boundaries - meaning, "what I will not allow or not accept." This saying has helped me to at least limit the mental time I spend on worry and obsession. For me, when I ask myself how important something is, it helps me refocus on myself. What DO I want from this particular argument? With that perspective I can usually get what I ultimately want and need from a situation and let go of the rest….. SG
