Hey Aubrey! What a relief to find you here. . .umm, just did not want to stay in SC for a while as it was really messin' with my serenity and felt that I was only becoming more angry with the "few" that were relentless in their repetitious views!! The people who once posted such positive messages were, as Veronica put it, "takin' the bait". I hope that this finds you well and a sincere thank-you for the suggestion of this site my friend. . .did you ever get your painting done?? peace, colin

TY for letting me share

Willing to go to any length to keep my sanity intact. I just regret there's not enough hours in the day

Sounds like a couple of my good friends who are always saying, "When I get the two brain cells I have left lined up, then I have a good day!"
The nice thing is knowing that they can be rejuvenated! After all, isn't AA the Fountain of Youth, we are all well preserved in alcohol.

(Author unknown)
I grew up in the fifties and sixties with practical parents -- a mother, who washed aluminum foil after she cooked in it, then reused it. She was the original recycle queen, before they had a name for it...
A father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new ones.
Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a mile away. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress.
It was the time for fixing things -- a curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress. Things we keep.
It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, reheating, renewing, I wanted just once to be wasteful.
Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there'd always be 'more.'
But then my mother died, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any 'more.'
Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away.. never to return.
So... while we have it... it's best we love it.... and care for it.... and fix it when it's broken..... and heal it when it's sick.
This is true.... for marriage..... and old cars..... and children with bad report cards..... and dogs with bad hips..... and aging parents..... and grandparents.
We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it.
Some things we keep. Like a best friend that moved away -- or -- a classmate we grew up with. There are just some things that make life important, like people we know who are special..... and so, we keep them close!
I received this from someone who thinks I am a "keeper"; so I've sent it to the people I think of in the same way.
Good friends are like stars.. You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Sometimes the child in one behaves a certain way and the rest of oneself follows behind, slowly shaking its head." ~ Niels Henrik David Bohr-
"The most wasted day of all is that in which we have not laughed." ~ Sebastien-Roch Nicolas Chamfort
Years wrinkle the face, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul." ~ Watterson Lowe
Thanks Aubrey. Good to see sfscuba post here, or anywhere for that matter!! Don't give up on SC, though. Been around there for a couple years and these things come, these things go. It all comes out in the wash. There's some folks who even think that real AA can't be found on the internet. Couldn't tell it by this site...
Oh, and Aubrey, the "other" language use is fine as I think it was in reference to your "sign" language skills, eh?? Thanks to all for the welcome as well. . .here' to another 24!! And Chris, your'e gonna use it regardless and feel honored my friend! peace, colin
Quote of the Day The height of your accomplishments will equal the depth of your convictions.
William F. Scolavino
Thought of the Day Value of perspective One reason why the problems of the moment can seem completely overwhelming is because you're so close to them. It is always helpful to put things in perspective. Your immediate frame of reference is based on the last few hours or days. Yet when you step back and put things in perspective, that time accounts for only a small fraction of your life. Certainly the present moment is of vital importance, for it's the one in which you're living. Yet even as you live in the current moment, your life has an immense reservoir of value, knowledge, and experience.
When the challenges seem insurmountable, consider all the massive challenges you've already overcome. Compared with the totality of who you are and who you can be, most difficulties will pale by comparison.
It's easy to allow the problems of the moment to dominate your thinking, for they can certainly be compelling. To move successfully through the challenges, to think more clearly and act more effectively, take a step back from them.
Give yourself some perspective. And you'll see your way positively through.
Ralph Marston
Thank you for sharing, he is one of my favorite authors.
It affirms that I have come a long way and if I focus on that instead of how far I have yet to go, I have more serenity in the moment.
As my friend "Mildred" says, "It doesn't matter if the cup is half empty or half full, it just means someone has put germs on my cup!"
Colin, once again I read what you surfed up. How ironic, I was reading Marston earlier. I posted his link on Sober 24. (grin)
